From Divarin@VERT/MUTINY to All on Thursday, February 03, 2022 15:29:05
Hey Mutinieers! Just wanted to take a moment to talk about what I've been working on: Community!
This is an entirely separate BBS program which I am writing from the ground up.
It will run alongside Mutiny so Mutiny as you all know and love it will stay as is (or continue to grow in it's own way) but to connect to Community you have to use port 2300 instead of 2332 (and it's telnet only, sorry SSH people)

Anyway this is a new format for BBS messaging, it combines chat & message bases into a single thing. So for example here on Mutiny we have chat rooms and we have message bases but they are separate.

On community the chat room *is* the message base. Basically it's an IRC like chat system but you can go back and read the entire backlog so you're not missing out on things that are said when you're not online.

At this time I still have to add the ability to create other channels (just the "General" channel right now) and private chats, then moderators (because chats can devolve into facebook-like crapfests without moderation)

Oh and it supports both ANSI and PETSCII (CBM) colors. If you're on a low-bandwidth connection you may want to stick with ASCII as since sending ANSI codes is expensive (bandwidth wise)

Registration is very simple, when you log in it just asks "Who are you?" and you enter your handle. If you've been on before it asks for your password, if not then it asks what password you want to use. That's it. I don't care about your phone number, email address, city state, birthday, sex, whatever.
