I'm reminded of a quote from that wonderful Lost In Space movie, "They eat their wounded."

It shows that the "tried and true" political standards within the DNC are going by the wayside and the party is being pulled further to the left. The question that remains is if this shift is sustainable or if the long-term life of the party memebers or if there will be a re-centering effect sometime in the future.

Yes, I'm trying really hard here to stay detatched based on my own political stance which doesn't line up with the DNC. It is up to registered party members to determine if the platform planks that have been introduced line up with their views.

Oh yeah, I remember that film.

I was thinking about the effects in the global US politics, but I have checked and it looks like individual senators are not THAT powerful. Still it makes me wonder if filling lists with radicals will cause the Democrats to lose votes. In the case refered in the link I guess it makes no difference since supposedly that senatorial election is pre-decided, but what when that is not the case?

Hmm.... food for thought. They said Trump would lose because he was such a radical and see the results...

I got a flyer in the mail yesterday that screamed at me:

"JOE BIDEN HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY THE RADICAL LEFT!"

"DON'T LET THEM TAKE OVER AMERICA!"

I looked at it and thought "Well, that's plainly not true... Biden has already stated he's against things like Medicare for all, "free" college, and other things that were part of "The Radical Left's" platform.

"But," I said to myself, "Wouldn't it be great if it was true?"

You will have a better read on the impact on the party shift than I would. I can only watch from my side and gape at how brash this "new DNC" is with their platform stances. If we want we can name these but that would be a different thread ;)

The question I would have for you is when it comes time to vote do you still plan to support those candidates that do fit your political compass, are you sitting out or are you voting for the other side?

Since the race in question is Massachusetts the results are pretty solid. What may become the informative action then is what the actual turnout and percentages are at the end of the day. A good analyst would be able to read the impact of those numbers on future races and help their respective parties plan accordingly.

I always vote my conscious regardless of the party. I cannot support the Democratic party as long as people like Chuck Schumer and Nancy Polosi are running the party. I also feel the party has gone so far to the left I can no longer be a part of it.

AMEN to that. They have lost it and gone off the extreme leftist deep end of the crazy pool. They are no longer the Democrat party of the 70's/80's. They are now the socialist DemonCrap party. So long as Skeletor Pelosi is in charge they are on a one way trip to extinction.

I find the reactions I am seeing intriguing.

Lots of ex-Democrats shunning their former party. A similar thing in Spain would be unconciveable. People in Spain gets married to their party, so to speak. You see people changing sides every now and then, but not with the intensity I am witnessing from US folks.

What has galled me is just how anti-American the rhetoric coming from the DNC has gotten over time. Statements like "America was never that great" by NY Governor Cuomo (he later tried to smooth things over by saying, "the nation's greatness has not yet been fully realized because inequalities exist.") grate on my ears, especially when he is cheered by his party.

Yes, they hate Trump and what he has been able to do. Rather than offering any kind of viable alternative they have simply gone the schooground route of name-calling and story telling. The problem is that their vitriol also spreads to anyone who remotely disagrees with their stance.

It will definitely be interesting to see what happens for turn-out this year, though some conspiracy theories point to the mail-in ballot push as a way to ensure they get their way. I won't go that far but given the tone of things it doesn't sound impossible.

The voting problem is going to have serious consequences. People are just going to give up and tell themselves their vote doesn't matter. Why should we wait in long lines to vote while others get to mail in their vote? The problems with schools not opening will effect the polling places. I see November being a real mess. I do however believe the issues will benefit Trump and this will call for investigations by the Dems and will call for a recount and perhaps even nullify the entire election. Like you said. It will definetly be interesting.

They will blame the educational system on Republicans who cut funding, but
the actual problem is what they are (or are not) teaching, which is on the Democrats.

Family not being important is on them in the sense that they make fun of
others who say it is, and also seem to like to fund things that make it
less imporant... you don't need any breadwinner (male or female) when we
