• Info Screen

From DesotoFireflite@VERT/VALHALLA to All on Saturday, May 28, 2022 12:39:22
Just curious, is there an way to list the actual FTN network on the Info Screen. The first example is how it displays now, Is there a way to make it display like the second example. Not a big deal, just vanity info purposes.
    As always, thanks.

There's no setting in SCFG where you'd enter "ValNet" (in that example). All FTNs are just "FidoNet" as far as Synchronet is concerned. You could create a custom text/system.msg with that information and blank out those strings in your text.dat or maybe do some funky editing of your text.dat to get that data in there.

What if you changed the text.dat string to "Network Address" and printed the 5d address, if domains are configured?

Hey, I like that idea, but I think I would call it "FTN Network Address"

There's no method to configure domains in SCFG. The addition of FTN domains support (by Deuce) to sbbsecho.ini was for BinkIT really and not used anywhere else.

LOL, I see what you mean, wasn't thinking that way at that moment. Actually I was thinking about keeping it simple to understand for the Users.

How many users do you reckon know what "FTN" stand for?

My guess is that the number is VERY near zero, and then fewer still that
would care what that info screen says... ;-)

I wonder how many BBS users are actual "users", at this point. I know I've got about 20 or so users that log in semi-regularly, most have expressed how they used to run a BBS at one point or another.

I'd imagine most sysops that have run a BBS for more than a few months would know what FidoNet is and possibly what "othernets" are. It's not too far of a stretch to figure out what "FTN" means.

That said, someone who is simply a user, and only logs into a BBS for the door games likely would have no clue.
